Horse Logging and Woodland Management
What is horse logging?
Horse logging is an environmentally friendly means of clearing felled timber from woodland.
It is a practice which is centuries old but fell by the wayside with the arrival of large modern machinery. Once again it is proving to be an economically and environmentally sound option in many cases with the forestry logging horses accessing land and removing timber in a low-impact manner.
There are places where machines are still a preferred option - but there are also many places where they are not.
In environmentally sensitive areas such as amenity woodland, parklands and smaller areas of thinning or even large gardens, the machinery is expensive, destructive, messy and scars the landscape for a considerable time.
Horse logging is low key, minimal impact on the visual amenity of the area and also negates the requirement to exclude the public from large areas whilst work progresses. As fuel costs continue to rise, it is becoming an ever more economically viable alternative.
Woodland management:
We offer a full woodland management service for owners of smaller areas of woodland. Our NPTC certified cutters can thin and fell smaller trees to allow the stronger ones to flourish.
We can also mill your felled wood on site to your requirements using our Logosol portable sawmilling equipment and leave you useful timber for fencing, decking or building use. We shred the remains for fuel and take the sawdust for bedding the horses - no mess and nothing is wasted!
